Theodor was born in a dugout home in 1871, the son of Aaron Hultgren and Inga Andersdotter. He had barbershops in Kerkhoven, Green Lake and Minneapolis. Gages served as a Minnesota Volunteer in the Spanish American War and the Philippine Insurrection. Listed as Hultgren, Theodore G; Unit - Fifteenth; Company D; Rank - Private. He was a murder victim in downtown Minneapolis at the Berry Brothers Restaurant in 1900. The family story was that he was shot at a poker table but news accounts only mention that he was thrown down a flight of stairs. Edward Golden and Thomas Karland alias Thompson were taken into custody and charged with murder but were inexplicably acquitted.
